This is an interesting question… I think people play so many video games that they think its okay to start acting like what they see. I think that some violent video games should not be played by children until they are old enough to realise that you can’t act like that.
I think scientists have actually shown that playing to many video games have been shown to make people more aggressive. However… I think for this to have an affect you would have to play on them an awful lot! People play on video games alot more now than they used to and I think they can be quite addictive (I used to love playing on crash bandicoot on the Play station!)…but it is one of the reasons people are becoming unhealthy and overweight…
Video games are fun to play on and like anything are ok in moderation…but people need to still make sure they are out and about interacting with people and getting all the activity they need to stay fit and healthy :).
Early research suggested that they didn’t but the more recent work seems to show that they do have negative effects on behaviour memory and mood and they are addictive. I’m not sure if they can be life threatening though.

I also agree with Rebecca! Young children shouldn;t be allowed to play on violent video games until they understand it is not like that in real life!
