• Question: Does energy drinks actually work and give you more energy? It's because next week on Wednesday 30th June, we have sports day...so do you have any tips...like what to eat before doing any sports?? I heard that eating pasta, a sweet drink and fruits work aswell!!! Nilima :) x

      You need lots of energy for your sports day so that you perform well. Carbohydrates such as pasta, rice and potatoes give you lots of energy. Athletes try and eat a big carbohydrate meal the day before an event so you could eat pasta for dinner on Tuesday 29th. On the morning (Wed 30th) you would need to eat a breakfast that also gives you energy- on the morning before any race i always have porridge for breakfast as it realises energy slowly through out the day. I’m not sure what time your events are but make sure you don’t eat in hour before you event as you will get stitch. If you are doing more than one event eat things like fruit, cereal bars and energy drinks in between them but only if you feel like you need more energy! You also want to be dehydrated so keep sipping water throughout the day. You will do great and good luck 🙂

      I think sports drinks do work yes! they give you a high level of sugar in your blood which gives you lots of energy! the same for eating fruits and sweets and anything really sugary! If you eat pasta the night before that is good aswell as it means you wills store energy in your muscles which means you will be able to last longer with higher levels of energy when you are exercising :)….after the sugar in your blood becomes low you will use the energy stored in your muscles! Also make sure you stay hydrated so drink lots of water! because no matter how many high energy food you eat you need water or you will not have a very good energy level! What events are you doing? I used to do the 100m and long jump at school! Good Luck!
