This is a question i’ve always wanted to know the answer to. Apparently cows legs can let in moisture, when it is about to rain there is more moisture in the air and their legs absorb it making their legs gets heavy and causing them to lay down. I’m not sure if this is fact but it seems like a clever idea.

They can sense small changes in air pressure leading up to a storm

Changes in air temperature and pressure. A lot of animals and plants use this to tell when it’s going to rain.
