      Hopefully the work on CO2 reduction will help to slow down climate change and produce new ways of producing chemicals and fuels to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

      I’ve had an influence on presurgical planning for kids with cerebral palsy, on lameness assessment for horses, and welfare in other animals, and currently I’m also working on reducing the incidence of osteoarthritis, and on understanding hand function (by studying hand adaption in rock climbers) which will help rehabilitation and artificial hand design.

      Hopefully i will find ways to increase fat burning during exercise and i can tell people how to do it who want to lose weight. Obesity is becoming a major problem in the world as it causes many other diseases therefore if i can find ways to prevent obesity people will be happier and healthier for longer.

      In order for the government to make changes to our country they need to see “evidence” that the changes they make will work. In 2008 the government launched a programme called “Healthy Weight, Healthy lives
      A Cross Government strategy for England”. In this document they said that they want to work on 5 things to improve the health of our nation. These were;

      Promote healthy growth and development of children
      Promote healthier food choices
      Build physical activity into our lives
      Create incentives for better health
      Personalise advice and support for different groups of people

      The research that I do will give the government some of the evidence they need to make changes to the way that our country is run in order to improve the health and quality of life of everyone who lives here.

      If goverments from other countries can see that we are making positive changes in the UK towards improving health they will look at how we are doing it and use the evidence to make changes in their own countries. So, yes my discoveries could contribute to changing the world, it could take a long time though!

      I am sure you have heard all over the news about the amount of people who are now overweight or obese…this means they have a high amount of body fat which could potentially cause them to have a huge amount of health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. The research I am doing will help to reduce the amount of young people who become overwieght or obese…by finding ways to keep people physically active doing something they enjoy (like playing sport) and therefore stop them becoming adults with the health prblems I just mentioned (plus alot more!). These sort of heath problems can lead to having a shorter life so hopefully the research I am doing will help to keep people healthy, happy and help them to live a longer life!
