Yes! I really enjoy the different types of work I get to do. Yesterday I was at an open day playing on dance mats, playing football and hula hooping all day with children who are inpatients at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham (this doesn’t sound like a job does it?!?). I also got to give a talk to people about the research I am doing which is always scary but its nice to see people interested in what you do. It is also always fun to meet new people. When I started doing my research in September I had to move away from home and live on my own but I have met so many nice and fun people who work in the sport science department at uni (i am living with 2 girls next year..one who is called heather and is in the sodium zone in “im a scientist”!). Science broadens your horizons and lets you learn so much more about the world and people in it!

It’s great fun, especially as I research in ski engineering so I get to use the alps as my laboratory. I know it’s a hard life but someone has to do it. Really!

It is lots of fun being a scientist!! You never know what you are going to be doing day to day and week to week. Sometimes I am just in my office writing and reading but then other weeks i’m in the laboratory doing experiments or meeting new and exciting people. I have been very lucky since I have started my PhD and have been to some new countries to do research, this has been the most fun thing i have done so far and I have only been a scientist for a year!!!

It is. I still have bad days but I genuinely love my job. I like the fact that I’m doing something worthwhile, and that I get to solve puzzles, mix with fun people, motion capture crazy things & travel the world. For me, it also matters that I can get into work at a time that suits me, then spend all day doing what I’m interested in & still go home in time to pick up my kids from school.

Some times it’s fun, some times it’s interesting, some times it’s exciting, some times it’s really hard and some times it’s boring. I think it depends on what kind of mood I’m in!
