There isn’t a cure but there is medication to manage the disease.

At the moment there is no cure for diabetes. In my department we do a lot of work looking at type II diabetes and how it occurs. Diabetes is a big health problem and a lot of research is trying to find a cure as we speak

There are 2 types of diabetes Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is when your body doesn’t produce insulin to get rid of the sugar in your blood…leading to high blood sugar which is bad for your heart and blood vessels. I do not think ther is a cure for Type 1 diabetes but people keep under control by injecting insulin into their bodies which helps their muscles take the sugar out of their blood.

Type 2 diabetes is when your muscles have just become insenstitive to the insulin in your body so they no longer take the sugar out of your blood. People whith type 2 diabetes are normally overweight or obese..and it is the excess fat they have in their muscles which stops the muscles being able to take up the the sugar out of the blood via the insulin. Type 2 diabetes is something you develop and you are not born with it. There is also not a cure for this as far as I am aware…but people manage it by controlling their diet and exercising..so they lose weight and get rid of some of the fat in their muscles which is blocking the sugar uptake from the blood.

No not yet, scientists are working on it though. Luckily diabetes can be treated. Also type 2 diabetes which occurs in people later in life can be prevented by eating a healthy diet and being physically active.
