I get told this all the time aswell. Bascially you look the way you do because of something called your genes…these genes decide if you have brown hair, blue eyes, how tall you are, ow big your feet are etc etc. They are sort of like a code which tell you body what type of cells to make to make you the way you are.

You inherit these genes from your parents…. So you may have your “dads hair” (not his actual hair but the same type) ..and your mums nose…because you got the hair gene from your dad and the nose gene from your mum. Your parents will have also got their genes from their parents aswell. So your mum will have some of your grandads and some of your grandmas genes…

Now…if your grandad passed his “eye” gene down to your mum…she may have then passed this on to you..and that is why people may say you have your grandads eyes!

You are made up of genes from your mum and your dad so you may have genes from from your mum that make you have the same nose as her and genes from your dad that make you have eyes that look like his!! People say I look like my dad and he is bald and a man!!!!

You inherited your genes, the building instructions that decide what you look like, half from your Mum and half from your dad. Your Mum may have passed on genes for eye colour or shape that she inherited from your Grandad. You don’t necessarily use all your genes as some overide each other and interact with each other so it’s possible that your eyes are more like your Grandad’s than your Mum’s are.

Genetics! Your grandad passed his genes on to your parent who then passed them on to you…but not all of them! You get genes from both of your parents so you will get some of the characteristics of both. I know two sisters, one looks like her father (most of the time) the other her mother (most of the time), but there are times you can see the other parent in each.
