• Question: The Snow sports industrie is very rich. People pay large amounts of money for the best ski boots and snowboarding equiptment. Have you tried to get funding from the big ski product companies?

I work with a couple of ski companies and yes they do make a lot of money. People pay lots for the best equipment but they don’t really need to! I coach a lot of children who turn up in the best race skis and best race boots before they can even ski. All equipment is graded to ability and a lot of engineering does into that. Buying the best skis won’t make you ski better unless you are already a good skier. In fact the best equipment on the market will mean you take longer to learn as it doesn’t behave the way it needs to for a beginner.

The best way to think of it is to consider a car. When you learn to drive you learn on something like a Vauxhall Corsa or a Ford Fiesta. You do not learn in a Ferrarri as they are far to fast and unstable. A new driver wouldn’t be able to control a Ferrarri….a beginner skier can’t control a pair of race skis.
