the best advice I could give anybody who want to pursue their dreams would be to work hard and never give up. If you put in the time and effort..there is no reason why you can not achieve what you want to and be successfull!
If terms of finding a job you love…I would say find something you are interested in…stick with it and see where it takes you :). I really enjoyed P.E at school so I picked it at A level. Then I looked at degrees which were to do with sport..chose to do my degree in sport and exercise sciences… and am now a sport scientist researcher!
I always think that how you feel is the most important. If someone wants to work and do nothing else then that is up to them. If someone wants to do just sport then that is fine. I am fortunate that I get to ski and work in the industry at the same time. It’s a work environment that I have created! The UK is very bad in that it doesn’t usually let athletes achieve their dream without sacrificing academic ability and vice versa. The US have a more healthy policy where you can pursue their dreams and be academic at the same time. A friend of mine, Shannon Barke, has a degree in Pharmacology from the University of Utah and won Silver at the Torino Olympics and Bronze at the Vancouver Olympics in Moguls. She now owns her own coffee company, another of her dreams!
My advice is to go for it! Do some research into what you need to do to be able to follow your dreams or do the job that you love… do some work experience so you know what it involves. Find out the subjects that you need to study or courses that you need to do. Ask your family and friends to support you. Don’t give up, failure isn’t real, if you don’t achieve your goals straight away all you’ve done is find another way not to do it!
