Because I run a team I have a lot of projects going on at the moment (and a lot of PhD students working on them!) Some of our aims are:
      – develop a diagnostic tool for osteoarthritis and understand the causes.
      – understand how the hand works, the effect of rock climbing, and improve artificial hands.
      – understand how locomotion changes with age in the horse.
      – reduce horse-racing injuries and fatalities.

I expect that we will find some really interesting and important things out about how we can use youth sports like football, netball, rugby etc. to help keep young people fit and healthy….and hopefully help to reduce the numbers of young people who are overweight or obese by getting people to be more physically active!

For example…we will be able to learn exactly how much energy (calories) a person burns during a game of football..and whether or not this makes up a large amount of the calories they burn during the day. We can then compare this to peoplewho do not play youth sports and see if there is a difference. if the person who plays sports always burns more calories in a day than the person who does not…. then obviously we can use this as a way to help people to loose weight….or if they are already a healthy weight..to maintain their weight.

If we can find a way to then increase the amount of people playing sport all over England and even the world…and make sure they enjoy it…. it will help to keep people everywhere fit and healthy.

Overall i would say the main thing we hope to gain is increasing the amount of people who take part in youth sport and as a result of this…remain fit and healthy throughout their lives :).

Fame and fortune! But failing that more research funding to carry on the work. What I really want to do is design a radical new ski that will adapt to conditions and terrain. A bit like a shape shifter! It also gives me the opportunity to employ people and help them on their careers.

I want to gain more knowledge on how to help people to lose weight and become fit and healthy. Obesity is becoming a very bit problem in developing countries and causing a lot of health problems therefore i want to help beat this problem.
