      Very good question….

The human body really intrigues me. From a young age there have been many questions that I want to find the answers to like, why do we need to eat? How can our body play the sport that we do? What makes some people better at sports than others?

When i started my degree i met people who were doing research to answer the questions that I needed answering. I wanted to be involved in helping answering these questions.

My supervisor, Professor Asker Jeukendrup, also inspired me to want to be a sport scientist. He is a great scientist and sports nutritionist and because of his hard work he has got to work with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as well as some top cyclists such as Lance Armstrong. He has given me the motivated to be a scientist and to work hard to do similar things to what he has achieved.

My GCSE Physics teacher and my A-level Chemistry teacher. And a Biology teacher who talked like Kermit the Frog so made lessons very interesting!

I have always found the human body really interesting and have always been active and enjoyed playing sport and exercising…so the idea of sport science really appealed to me. I think this combined with the idea that I could help people lead healthier and more enjoyable lives by learning about it really inspired me! If i can make people enjoy sport and exercise as much as I do and get the benefits then I will be pretty happy!

I had some really great teachers at school, and I really loved showjumping and training horses so I ended up in a degree which seemed “serious” enough but relevant. First though, I started a degree in Maths because I could and I thought that that was impressive. I did well but I was so bored that I’ve since avoided doing things just to impress other people! I just do what I’m interested in, which has led me to science.
