I would use it to help get children (like yourselves) more involved in the research I am doing with Aston Villa and give them the opportunity to learn more about sport science and what you can do with it because I think it is an area of science which gets forgotten about….people assume sport science is just learning how to do things like put up trampolines which it really isn’t! Read the bit in my profile about what I plan to do with the money and it will tell you more about the Aston Villa work I am doing :).

I’d put it towards a film I am making on climate change and how it would affect the way we play sport.

There are a lot of people in our area who don’t realise that they could be good at science and engineering, or that they might want to be, and so I want to take them behind the scenes and show them that it can be fun and that they have the skills. Then they can decide if it’s for them or not, but either way more people will know about what we’re doing!

I want to set up an hands-on event for older people, their carers and anyone who works professionally with older people to tell them about the benefits of exercise in older age.

There are many barriers to exercising in older age and one of the biggest is that people think that it is unsafe to do it. Actually, if exercise is perscribed properly it is a really successful way of improving health, someone’s day to day ability getting around, their mental state (it reduces depression), their quality of life and it reduces their risk of falling and being taken into hospital.

At the event I want to highlight the benefits of exercise, do some taster sessions, show people what is available and out there at the moment, and talk about the work that I’m doing at the moment and the work that I want to do in the future.

I would use the money to travel to conferences and to school to tell people about what I am doing.
