One of the best things about my job is that i have control over everything i do. When I wake up in the morning I can decide if i am testing in the lab or if I should do some reading or writing. It also means that if i want to go for a run at lunchtime or meet my friends for lunch I can.

Another fun thing about my job is meeting people and making new friends. In my department there are lots of PhD students so you are never lonely and always have someone to talk to.

I also love being in the lab and doing experiments. Sometimes I’m sitting in my office and think of small experiments and i just run to the lab and do them. Its a really independent job which i love

The freedom to do lots of different kinds of research, travel the world, meet lots of interesting people. There are so many great things about it!

I know that I’m meant to say the excitement of discovering new things but actually I think it’s the freedom.

I have had some really exciting days and I do love being an expert, working on films, travelling the world, etc. but most of all I love being in charge of my own time and doing what I’m interested in. Nobody tells me what to do and that’s great.

Also the people are fun, and that’s worth a lot too!

The best thing about my job is the freedom and variety.

Each day I decide what I’m going to work on. When I get tired of working on one thing I can chose to work on something else. Sometimes I’m reading, sometimes I’m taking to people about ideas, sometimes I’m learning new ways to measure different things or doing tests on people, or writing up my experiments, or looking at the results and finding out what they mean. And then from time to time I travel to conferences to give presentations and listen to other experts talking about their research.

The best bit is that I really get to work when I want to work! Obviously I have things which I need to get done on a day to day basis (I have to be very self motivated!) but I can do it how and when I want to. I have a supervisor (like a teacher) who makes sure I am keeping on top of things… and I still do a 7/8 hour day everyday…but it is a very flexible job.

I also enjoy that each day is different. Some days I am out and about at schools and sports clubs getting people involved in my research..other days I am in the lab testing..and some days all I do is read and drink tea! But i enjoy it all and I get to meet different people everyday so it never gets boring 🙂
